Beneath the Surface is inspired by the hidden structures and layers that exist within the natural world.

Fluid alcohol inks create translucent forms that appear to float above and beneath one another, giving the painting an intriguing sense of depth. Fine edges, pools of pigment and unexpected pathways evoke mineral deposits, submerged landscapes and organic structures seen at close range.

The title also carries a more personal meaning — the idea that what we first see rarely tells the whole story.
