Brilliance Revealed I & II are inspired by labradorite — a mineral whose relatively subdued surface can suddenly reveal remarkable flashes of colour when caught by the light.

Embedded pieces of natural labradorite become part of the paintings themselves, sitting amongst layers of mineral colour, texture and expressive marks. As the viewing angle and surrounding light change, details within both the painted and natural surfaces reveal themselves differently.

Labradorite is often associated symbolically with transformation, intuition and hidden potential. 

​

That idea sits at the heart of the pair: brilliance is not always immediately visible. Sometimes it is revealed only when we look from a different perspective.
